Treatment of ent-17-norkauran-16-one (1) with thallium trinitrate in acetic acid gave several oxidative rearrangement products [(4), (5a), (5b), and (6b)]. The diterpene skeleton of these rearrangement products, ent-9(8→15αH)abeo-kaurane (17), has been synthesised.
