Determination of the valence electronic configuration of uranium dioxide by photoelectron spectroscopy

Abstract

A comparison of the He I, He II and MgKα photoelectron spectra of the valence band of uranium dioxide shows that the two uranium valence electrons are predominantly 5ƒ rather than 6d in character in this compound.
