Onsager transition in hard plate fluid

Abstract

The phase transition between the isotropic and the anisotropic phase of the hard plate fluid has been described by the numerical solutions of the Onsager virial approximation theory. The results are presented in a phase diagram which indicates regions of stability for each phase. The model results may be used to describe the behaviour of dilute clay dispersions.
