On the reduction of certain matrix expressions in the statistical theory of chain molecule configurations

Abstract

It is shown that certain quantities related to the configuration of a chain molecule of finite length and made up of repeating units of a single type can be expressed in terms of the proper values of the statistical weight matrix for individual bond conformations. Among these quantities are the configurational energy and the mean fraction of bonds in a specified conformations. Results for symmetric chains with threefold potentials are given.
