Thermal unimolecular decomposition of ethyl propionate behind reflected shock waves

Abstract

The kinetics of the thermal decomposition of ethyl propionate to ethylene and propionic acid behind reflected shock waves have been studied in two single-pulse shock tubes of different design.

Between 913 and 1100 K the results from the two sets of experiments are in good agreement with each other, and with the extrapolated results of earlier work using the toluene-carrier method at temperatures between 778 and 875 K.

Above 1100 K however, the Arrhenius plot is curved in a manner resembling that previously reported for cyclopropane and cyclobutane.
