Kinetics of the oxidation of isopropanol by aquavanadium(V) ions in aqueous perchlorate media

Abstract

The rate of slow oxidation of isopropanol by VVaq in aqueous perchlorate media increases with increasing acidity. No intermediate complexes are detected, and the oxidation is discussed in terms of the reactions of VO+2 and its protonated species. The kinetic investigation shows that only VO+2aq and V(OH)3+2aq are involved, and the energy and entropy of activation are compared with those for the oxidation of isopropanol by other transition metal cations.
