Studies on transition-metal cyano-complexes. Part I. Octacyanoniobates(III), -niobates(IV), -molybdates(V), and -tungstates(V)

Abstract

The preparation and properties of salts of [Nb(CN)₈]^n–(n= 4 or 5) are described. E.p.r. spectra of [Nb(CN)₈]^4– salts indicate a change in configuration from D_2d in the solid state to D_4d in solution. The vibrational and electronic spectra of these cyanoniobates are reported and support these structural changes. E.p.r. and vibrational spectra of [M(CN)₈]^3–(M = Mo or W) salts in the solid state and in solution are also given.
