Arylazo, aryldi-imide, and some isocyanide complexes of ruthenium

Abstract

Reaction of [RuHCl(PPh3)3] and [RuCl2(PPh3)3] with [ArN2]X afforded [RuCl(N2Ar)2(PPh3)2]X (Ar =p-MeC6H4, o-, m-, or p-MeOC6H4; X = BF4 or PF6) and [RuCl2(N2Ar)(PPh3)2]n[X]n(Ar =p-MeC6H4, o- or m-MeOC6H4; X = BF4 or PF6), respectively. The species [Ru2Cl3{N2(p-MeOC6H4)}2(PPh3)3][PF6] was also obtained from [RuCl2(PPh3)3]. Chlorination of [RuCl{N2(p-MeC6H4)}2(PPh3)2][BF4] afforded [RuCl3{N2(p-MeC6H4)}-(PPh3)2]. Addition of [ArN2][PF6] and of CNR to [RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)3] gave the aryldi-imide species [RuCl-(NCMe)(NH[double bond, length half m-dash]NAr)(PPh3)2][PF6](Ar =o-, m-, or p-MeOC6H4) and [RuHCl(CO)(CNR)(PPh3)2](R = Pri, But, or p-ClC6H4), respectively. Reaction of [RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)2] with HCl gas in ethanol gave [RuCl2(CO)2(PPh3)2] and [Ru2Cl4(CO)2(PPh3)3], and with nitrous acid, [RuCl3(NO)(PPh3)2].
