Circular dichroism of isomeric pyridylethanols

Abstract

The room and low temperature absorption and c.d. spectra of the isomeric (–)-(S)-2-, 3-, and 4-pyridylethanols, (–)-(S)-(I)–(III) have been measured. The data obtained are satisfactorily interpreted by assuming the existence of a second nπ*(A2â†A1) electronic transition of the pyridine chromophore at ca. 240 nm.
