The dipole moments of substituted adamantanes and the correlation of the dipole moments of aliphatic compounds with substituent constants

Abstract

Dipole moments are reported for a representative series of monosubstituted adamantanes. An analysis of the results together with a measurement of the electronic polarisation of adamantanes suggest that the atomic polarisations are small. A method is reported to allow correlation of the dipole moments of serie of aliphatic compounds with substituent inductive effects and is illustrated with methyl, t-butyl, cyclohexyl, cyclopentyl, cyclopropyl, and adamantyl derivatives.
