Hydrolysis of a 2,3-dihydrothiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidin-5-one with 2N-hydrochloric acid gives first a 3-(2-mercapto-ethyl)uracil, which then ring closes to a 2.3-dihydrothiazolo[3,2-c]pyrimidin-5-one.
