Electron spin resonance spectra of fluoroalkyl radicals in polycrystalline matrices. Part 3.—Photolysis of lead(IV) fluoroalkanoates

Abstract

The ultra-violet photolysis of lead(IV) fluoroalkanoates (RCOO)4Pb at 77 K leads initially to the formation of fluoroalkyl radicals R which are identified by their electron spin resonance spectra. When R = CH2F or CHF2 hydrogen-abstraction by the primary fluoroalkyl radical occurs at temperatures between 77 and 113 K but no abstraction of fluorine is seen in any compound examined.
