Proton motions in hydrogen-bonded ferroelectric and antiferroelectric solids. Part 2.—Neutron incoherent scattering in polycrystalline Ag2H3IO6 and Ag4H2I2O10

Abstract

The energy gain incoherent neutron scattering cross-sections and frequency distributions are reported for both the para-electric and antiferroelectric phases of Ag2H3IO6 over the interval (10–850) cm–1. No quasielastic broadening, corresponding to the energy-width associated with the antiferroelectric mode, was observed above Tc.

The infra-red and neutron incoherent scattering spectra of Ag4H2I2O10 are reported and discussed. The γOH bending frequencies in these hydrogen periodates are compared with those in other O—H—O hydrogen-bonded solids.
