A Lewis acid catalysed Diels–Alder reaction with inverse electron demand; an alternative synthesis of α-damascone

Abstract

α-Damascone has been synthesised from isoprene by acetylation, acid catalysed Diels–Alder reaction of the resulting 4-methylheza-3,5-dien-2-one with isobutylene, and final aldol condensation with acetaldehyde.
