Synthesis of the title compounds has shown purpurosamine C to be 2,6-diamino-2,3,4,6-tetradeoxy-D-erythro-hexose, and the diamino-sugar component of sisomicin to be 2,6-diamino-2,3,4,6-tetradeoxy-D-glycero-hex-4-enose.
