Collision cross-sections for electrons in ethylene and acetylene

Abstract

D/µ measurements have been made for electron swarms in ethylene and acetylene and collision cross-sections evaluated which are consistent with measured drift and diffusion data. These show that electron swarm behaviour in these gases is consistent with the dominant inelastic interaction being direct vibrational excitation of i.r. active vibrational modes.
