Photoreduction of acetone by toluene and ethylbenzene

Abstract

The photoreduction of acetone in toluene gave bibenzyl and 1,1-dimethyl-2-phenylethanol and that in ethyl-benzene gave meso- and (±)-2,3-diphenylbutane and 1,1-dimethyl-2-phenylpropan-1-ol. Pinacol and propan-2-ol were not formed.
