2,6-Dinitro-4-X-anilino-N-methylpropionamides: reactions with amines

Abstract

2,6-Dinitro-4-X-anilino-N-methylpropionamides (where X is an electron-withdrawing group) have been found to react with a number of amines in alcoholic solvents to yield 1-σ(Meisenheimer) complexes via attack of alkoxide ion on the 1-position of the aromatic ring. A kinetic study of this reaction for the compounds in which X = NO2, MeSO2, and CN has been made.
