Pentacarbonylrhenium complexes of zinc, cadmium, and mercury

Abstract

The new complexes M[Re(CO)5]2(M = Zn, Cd, or Hg) have been prepared by several different routes. By reaction of Hg[Re(CO)5]2 with Hg[Mn(CO)5]2 and HgX2(X = Cl, Br, or I) respectively the complexes HgMnRe(CO)10 and XHgRe(CO)5 have also been prepared. M[Re(CO)5]2(M = Zn or Cd) form adducts with some nitrogen- and oxygen-donors which have been isolated as crystalline solids for M = Cd. The M–Re bonds in M[Re(CO)5]2(M = Zn, Cd, or Hg) are cleaved by halogens, hydrogen halides, and organic halides. The vibrational and some of the mass spectra of the new complexes prepared are reported and discussed.
