Proton mobility in aqueous solutions of some alkali halides

Abstract

It has been claimed that a water structure breaking influence would enhance to different extents the mobility of metal ions but would lower the mobility of protons, whereas structure-promoting perturbations would be accompanied by the reverse effects. The experimental work on the hydrogen ion and the cadmium ion, outlined in this paper, does not support these conclusions. For the alkali halides it appears that the anion has a more significant effect than the cation upon the proton mobility in aqueous solutions.
