Molecular magnetic ellipsoid in cobalt ammonium Tutton salt

Abstract

The orientation of the principal molecular axes bears no obvious relationship to the metal–oxygen bond directions in the complex ions of cobalt ammonium Tutton salt. Details of the proof of this phenomenon illustrate important aspects of the experimental measurement and subsequent theoretical treatment of the principal magnetic susceptibilities of monoclinic crystals.
