Orthophosphates. Part III. The hydrolysis of secondary calcium orthophosphates

Abstract

The hydrolysis of monetite, CaHPO4, and brushite, CaHPO4,2H2O, in H2O at pH near 7·0 has been reinvestigated. ΔGf° For Ca5OH(PO4)3, Ca8H2(PO4)6,5H2O, and Ca4O(PO4)2 have been calculated to be –1495·5, –2930·5, and –1092·9 kcal mol–1 respectively, in good agreement with values obtained from calculations based on ΔGf° Ca5F(PO4)3. The stability of these phosphates in the system CaO–P2O5–H2O is discussed.
