Cationic bis-arylazo, and related, complexes of ruthenium

Abstract

Reaction of [Ru(PPh3)3HCl] with [ArN2]]BF4](Ar =p-MeC6H4 or p-MeOC6H4) gave [Ru(N2Ar)2(PPh3)2Cl][BF4]; reduction with sodium amalgam in ethanol affords ArNH2 and NH3, oxidation with chlorine gives [Ru(N2Ar)(PPh3)2Cl3], and with [Ru(PPh3)3Cl2], [ArN2][BF4] affords [Ru(N2Ar)(PPh3)2Cl2]2[BF4]2.
