A convenient alternative to the Beckmann rearrangement

Abstract

Alkyl nitrones from ketones are smoothly transformed by treatment with toluene-p-sulphonyl chloride in pyridine into N-alkylamides, a reaction sequence which provides a convenient alternative to the Beckmann rearrangement.
