Dispersion of AC-admittance in ionic melts

Abstract

The technique described enables the dispersion of a.c. admittance in molten salts in the frequency (f) range 0.1–200 kHz to be measured with ten times the previous precision. Resistance (±0.003 %) and capacitance (± 0.06 %) were measured in KCl(1073–1223 K) and AgBr(1012 K), the temperature being uniform to within ±0.1 K along the capillary cell. In AgBr the dispersion of resistance is very small. In KCl it is appreciable even in narrow capillaries, and a consistent trend with temperature is found. In the range 10–100 kHz the dispersion of resistance decreases with temperature rise. The capacitance is proportional to 1/f[fraction three-over-two] and insensitive to temperature.
