Adsorption of dilute solutes from liquid mixtures

Abstract

Experimental data are obtained for the adsorption of water from liquid cyclohexane on molecular sieves (3A and 13X) and on silica gel at 25.6°C. A theory is derived for the adsorption of liquid solutes from liquid solvents. The theory is for dilute solutes and considers the competitive adsorption of the solvent. For the special case when the solvent is excluded from the adsorbent, an inert-solvent model describes adsorption of the same solute from different solvents.
