Hydrogenation of butadiene over anthracene-sodium electron donor-acceptor complex

Abstract

Butadiene was readily hydrogenated to 1- and 2-butanes over the stoichiometric anthracene-sodium (AnNa+ and An=2Na+) EDA complex films. The rate and selectivity of butene formation were studied in the reaction between butadiene and adsorbed hydrogen on the complex films. The mechanism of the reaction was examined by means of u.-v., mass- and microwave-spectrometric techniques, it was concluded that the hydrogenation of butadiene proceeds through the following reactions;
