A new family of pseudoazulenes, mono- and di-benzo-derivatives of [1]benzoselenino[4,3-b]indole, have been prepared by dehydrogenation of the corresponding dihydro-compounds obtained from 2,3-dihydro-1-benzoselenin-4-one arylhydrazones. The properties of the pseudoazulenes are compared with those of their sulphur analogues.
