Reaction with aromatic bases of the intermediate isolated from the NN-dimethylaniline–tetracyanoethylene reaction

Abstract

A kinetic investigation of the reaction with bases of the intermediate isolated from solutions of NN-dimethylaniline and tetracyanoethylene, suggested subsequently to be a tetracyanoethane derivative, is reported. Activation parameters have been determined for the reaction and it has been found that there is no kinetic hydrogen isotope effect. The mechanism is discussed in the light of these findings.
