Complexes of 8-amino-2-methylquinoline with copper(II)

Abstract

The bidentate ligand, 8-amino-2-methylquinoline (maq), forms complexes with copper(II) of the type Cu(maq)₂X₂,-nH₂O where X = Cl, Br, NO₃, or ClO₄, and Cu(maq)X₂ where X = Cl, Br, or NO₃. Evidence suggests that the mono-chelated complexes with halogen are tetrahedral, whilst the complex Cu(maq)(NO₃)₂ appears to be five-co-ordinate in the solid. The bis-chelated complexes are possibly octahedral. Visible spectral changes occurring in aged solutions are discussed.
