Mass spectra of the complexes of copper(II) and nickel(II) with o-benzoquinone mono-oximes

Abstract

The mass spectra of six complexes of copper(II) and nickel(II) with o-benzoquinone mono-oximes of the type (Xqo)2M (X = Cl, Br, or Me) have been obtained. The fragmentation patterns involves elimination of radicals such as (Xqo)˙, NO˙, and O˙, and even-electron molecules such as CO. In the example of the halogen-containing compounds migration of halogen to metal is observed. Two of the nickel compounds (X = Cl or Me) exhibit fragments with m/e values greater than the monomer; these and other fragments which are observed in the spectra of all the compounds are used to infer their structure.
