A study of the co-ordination behaviour of various 2-pyridyl ketones. Part IV. Some compounds of 2-benzoylpyridine with salts of manganese(II), cobalt(II), and nickel(II)

Abstract

Complexes of 2-benzoylpyridine(L) with the perchlorates, nitrates, chlorides, bromides, and iodides of the title metals are reported. With the exception of MnLX2(X = Cl or Br) all compounds isolated were bis-complexes but the metal ions are located in six-co-ordinate environments in all cases. The behaviour of the complexes in nitro-methane solution is considered and it is established that [CoL2X2](X = Cl or Br) dissociates to the pseudo-tetrahedral complex [CoLX2]. The two forms of [NiL2Cl2] are believed to be the two isomers of the trans-dichloro-complex and MnLX2(X = Cl or Br) is polymeric.
