Metal complexes as indicators for solvent structure. Part II. Nickel(II) complexes of meso-stilbenediamine in mixtures of water with alcohols, ketones, or amides

Abstract

The behaviour of bis-meso-(stilbenediamine)nickel(II) acetate, [Ni(stien)2](AcO)2 in mixtures of water with alcohols, acetone, and amides is reported. The equilibrium between the complex ion and the solvent is necessarily related to the structure of the solvent, and these changes are discussed in thermodynamic terms and also in comparison with other methods, e.g. the absorption of ultra-sound in alcohol–water.
