The nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of some platinum and palladium π-allyl complexes and their reactions with sulphur dioxide

Abstract

The 1H n.m.r. spectrum of Pt(2-methylallyl)2 has been examined and that of Pt(allyl)2 re-examined at 220 MHz. The spectra indicate that both compounds exist in solution in two isomeric forms with symetrically bonded π-allyl ligands. Pd(allyl)2 reacts with sulphur dioxide to form (C3H5) Pd(SO2C3H5) in which the sulphur dioxide has inserted into only one of the π-allyl ligands. The n.m.r. and i.r. spectra of this compound are discussed.
