Electron spin resonance evidence for the cations Cd23+, AgCd2+, and AgHg2+

Abstract

Analysis of the hyperfine coupling constants for these radicals show that the unpaired electrons are in σ-bonds comprising largely the outer s-orbitals of the atoms: these atoms have equal spin-densities in Cd23+ and AgCd2+, but mercury is favoured in AgHg2+.
