Pyrazines as optically active aromatic chromophores

Abstract

The electronic absorption and c.d. spectra of a number of alkyl-substituted pyrazines in neutral and in acidic solvents have been measured, and for the optically active compounds the observed Cotton effects have been assigned to the respective nπ* and ππ* transitions of the pyrazine chromophore.
