Aryl-pentacyanocobalt nitroxides—a new group of stable free radicals

Abstract

The reduction of aromatic nitro-compounds by Na3Co(CN)5 gives stable radical-anions {(NC)5Co–N(Ar)–O·}3–(identified by e.s.r.) which can also be made by addition of {Co(CN)5}3– to Ar·N[double bond, length as m-dash]O.
