Diffusion in a three ion system

Abstract

Theory for the calculation of the diffusion in one dimension of an ion in a mixture of ions where the ion transport is controlled both by the concentration gradients and by the liquid-junction potential is presented. A Debye-Hückel correction which allows for the variation of the ion activity coefficient with the ionic strength is included in the treatment. Experiment and theory are in good agreement for the diffusion of H+ in a series of HCl + KCl mixtures.
