Comparative physical chemical study of isotactic and atactic poly(styrene sulphonic acid) solutions. Part 1.—Electrochemical measurements using cells with and without liquid junction

Abstract

Mean ionic and hydrogen ion activities were measured in dilute aqueous solutions of isotactic and atactic poly(styrene sulphonic acids) and the results have confirmed the existences of additivity rules for activities in polyelectrolyte solutions. Interpretation of the activity data leads to the conclusion that the stereoregular polyion has a more compact conformation in solution than the corresponding atactic polyion.
