Electrical conductance in molten zinc chloride

Abstract

A bridge and associated equipment are described with which the conductance of molten zinc chloride has been measured over the temperature range 320–570° with an accuracy of 0·3%, achieved in part by reducing the frequency-dependence of the cell resistance to 0·1% over the range 0·5–100 kHz.

The residual frequency does not appear to be very sensitive to melt purity of applied voltage. The Arrhenius activation energy for specific conductance of molten ZnCl2 decreases non-linearly from 27 kcal. mole–1 at 320° to 13 kcal. mole–1 at 600°.
