A gas kinetic investigation of the n-butene equilibria

Abstract

The equilibrium constant, free energy, enthalpy, and entropy for cis- and trans-but-2-ene have been determined by measuring the rates of their heterogeneous isomerisations catalysed by pyrolytic carbon. The results agree well with thermodynamic data and with recent data from equilibrum studies of the homogeneous iodine-catalysed isomerisations of the n-butenes.
