Electronic properties and stereochemistry of dipotassium barium hexanitrocuprate(II)

Abstract

The single-crystal polarised electronic and e.s.r. spectra and i.r. spectrum of K2BaCu(NO2)6 have been examined. By comparing these properties with those of complexes of known crystal structure it is suggested that the copper(II) ion occupies a tetragonal octahedral environment of approximate D4h symmetry, involving six-fold nitro-co-ordination.
