Far infrared and Raman spectra of halogenometal pentacarbonyls

Abstract

The i.r. spectra of a series of halogenometal pentacarbonyls M(CO)5X (X = Cl, Br, or I), both neutral (M = Mn or Re) and anionic (M = Cr, Mo, or W), have been recorded in the region 70–200 cm.–1. Assignments for MBr and MI stretching and CMC bending vibrations are made, and the results discussed in relation to variations in the oxidation state of the metal, and to the number of fundamentals active in C4v symmetry. Solid-state laser Raman spectra have been determined for the range 60–2200 cm.–1. The vibrational spectra of the parent carbonyls M2(CO)10 have also been recorded for comparative purposes.
