A study of internal rotation in p-nitrosodimethylaniline (I) by lH n.m.r. spectroscopy has yielded the free energy of activation ΔG‡= 10.6 (±0.2) kcal. / mole a t 197 °K for the hitherto undetected rotation of the dimethylamino-group.
