Studies of ion pair solvation: absolute rate constants of propagation of the tetraglyme-co-ordinated living sodium polystyrene

Abstract

Studies of anionic polymerization of styrene in tetrahydropyran in the presence of tetraglyme led to the absolute value of the equilibrium constant KG, —S,Na++ glyme ⇄—S, Na+(glyme), and to the absolute value of the propagation constant of the “glymated” species —S,Na+(glyme)+ S →—SNa+(glyme), kG.
