The spectrographic analysis of steelmaking slag by a compaction method of sample preparation

Abstract

An analytical process for the analysis of graphite-based compacts of powdered slag has been examined. A standardised procedure is proposed for the preparation of compacts and operation of the direct-reading emission spectrometer. The method can easily be applied by staff already familiar with the use of the instrument for steel analysis. Standardised samples of slag have been used to calibrate the instrument and for the purpose of measuring analytical performance.
