Kinetics of ion exchange. Part 1
Abstract
A computer programme has been developed which allows a determination of the kinetics of ionexchange to be made using a finite difference solution for a system whose differential inter-diffusion coefficient is given by [graphic omitted] D*A, D*B are the self-diffusion coefficients of the ions A and B respectively and the concentrations, valencies, and activities of these ions in the exchanger are given by C, Z, and a respectively. The solutions have been compared with the experimental kinetics for the exchange Ca2+⇌ Sr2+ in chabazite. The activity terms have a profound influence on the rates of exchange.
