Transport processes in low melting salts. Thallous nitrate

Abstract

The electrical conductance, viscosity, and density of molten TINO3 are reported over the temperature range 210–281°C. The energies of activation EΛ and Eη for ionic conductance and viscous flow are, respectively, 3.35 and 3.65 kcal equiv–1. These results are examined relative to best-values for chlorides and nitrates and relative to spectral data. The near equivalency of the values of EΛ and Eη in the nitrate series, and the spectral data are in accord with the viewpoint of cooperative interactions, resulting in nearly equivalent configurational changes, dominating the transport processes in such structured but highly ionic melts.
