Aromatic substitution. Part XX. Homolytic arylation of aromatic compounds with benzenediazonium tetrafluoroborate and pyridine in homogeneous solution

Abstract

The pyridine-catalysed decomposition of benzenediazonium tetrafluoroborate in solution in an aromatic solvent and sulpholan has been studied. The isomer and rate ratios are consistent with an attack of PhX by phenyl radicals. The quantitative data appear to be more reliable than those obtained with benzoyl peroxide.
