The Mössbauer effect in tin(II) compounds. Part V. Spectra of tin(II)–pyridine complexes and of the pyridinium triligandstannates(II)

Abstract

The solid products SnX2,py (X = F, Cl, Br); SnX2,2py (X = Cl, Br, NCS, HCO2); SnSO4,xpy and pyHSnX3(X = Cl, Br, NCS) have been obtained from solutions of tin(II) compounds in anhydrous and aqueous pyridine. Their i.r. and X-ray diffraction data are reported. The thermal properties and the Mössbauer parameters of the tin(II)–pyridine complexes show that the 1 : 1 adduct is the stable complex and that the additional ligands in polypyridine materials are only weakly bonded to the tin. The Mössbauer data for the tin(II)–pyridine complexes and for the pyridinium triligandstannates(II) are interpreted in terms of the use of the tin(II) bonding electrons.
